Prenatal imprints
Womb healing for the fear that is older than any memory you can name.
Our life stories begin long before memory. Even before birth, we carry the emotional climate of our mother's womb: her joy, her fear, her grief, her trauma. Those imprints quietly shape the nervous system, relationships and sense of self.
What is womb healing?
Womb healing is work with the imprints formed before birth. It holds that a baby absorbs the emotional environment of the womb, and that those early impressions continue to organise the adult nervous system long before there is any language to describe them. In my practice it moves through three movements: womb regression to trace the imprint, womb healing to release what is stored, and womb regeneration to rebuild what was missing.
01 · What it is
The womb is our first home. It teaches us whether arriving is safe.
Womb work is a direct way to reach the earliest imprints we carry, and it exists because a whole class of difficulty does not respond to anything later. You can trace a fear to childhood and find nothing there that explains it. You can do years of good work on your parents and still meet a wordless conviction that you are a burden, that you must earn the right to take up space, that something about your presence was inconvenient.
What frequently turns out to be true is that the conviction predates you having any say in it. It was the weather of the nine months you spent forming. Not something anyone did to you deliberately. Often something your mother was going through and had no support for.
Healing womb imprints is not only personal. It is generational.
This is where womb work and systemic work meet. When you reach what your mother was carrying while she carried you, you are usually also reaching what her mother handed her. Resolve it at that layer and the cycle stops moving forward, which is the part that tends to matter most to clients who are parents.
02 · Why it matters
When the problem has no story attached to it.
These are the patterns that make people say “I have no idea where this comes from”, and mean it.
- A survival-level fear with no event behind it
- Feeling like an intruder in your own family
- Restlessness that has been there as long as you have
- Difficulty being held, received, or cared for
- Belonging that never quite arrives, anywhere
- Grief you have carried since before you could speak
- Numbness after decades of managing everything
- A body braced against something it cannot identify
One student described bringing this work to a forty-four year old man who had felt restless his entire life and could never focus on anything, having tried several approaches already. After one session he said something had dissolved and he had received new insights for the first time in years. Another brought it to a woman whose frozen shoulders eased as she recognised she had been carrying a responsibility that belonged to her mother.
Those are their clients, not mine, and I include them for a reason: this work is transferable. It is not a gift I happen to have. It is a method, and I teach it.
03 · The three movements
Access, release, and then rebuild. Skipping the third is the common mistake.
Womb regression
A gentle process to trace back and uncover the hidden imprints. You are guided safely to access pre-birth memory, sensation and narrative as it is held in the body. This is not hypnosis and it is not re-enactment. You stay present and in control the whole way through, and we move at the pace your body sets.
Womb healing
Safe somatic and emotional release practices, to dissolve what is stored in the womb space. This includes womb conversations, which restore connection with the mother, with yourself, and with the lineage. Much of what surfaces here has never been spoken by anyone in the family.
Womb regeneration
Moving beyond release into renewal. Rewiring the limiting pattern, anchoring safety and worthiness, reclaiming joy, creativity and belonging. Release on its own leaves a space, and a nervous system with a space in it will reach for the familiar. This is the movement that decides whether the work holds.
04 · The nine imprints
Most womb work discusses four. I map nine.
Four imprints are commonly taught: conception, the discovery of the pregnancy, gestation and birth. In my own practice that resolution was too coarse. Clients kept locating something specific that the four-stage map had no place for, so over years of sessions I mapped nine stages instead.
Nine Months Before Conception
The physical, emotional, relational and spiritual context around the parents as they prepare for conception.
The Conception Event
The circumstances and emotional environment surrounding conception itself, the very beginning of life.
Discovery of Pregnancy
What happened when the pregnancy became known: acceptance, joy, fear, rejection, uncertainty or conflict.
The Father’s Reaction
The father’s response to the news, and how it relates to belonging, protection, acceptance and connection.
The Duration of Pregnancy
The experiences and emotional environment surrounding the mother and the developing child throughout the pregnancy.
The Birth Process
The transition from womb to world, including experiences of intervention, separation, urgency, difficulty or ease.
The First Week After Birth
The earliest experiences of contact, separation, care, safety and belonging.
The First Year
Attachment, dependence, trust, safety, and the beginning of separation.
The First Six Years
The gradual development of a separate sense of self while remaining connected to the mother and the family.
Look at what the extra five stages do. They reach back to the nine months before conception, because the state a family is in before a child arrives is already part of the story. They give the father’s reaction a stage of its own, rather than folding it into the mother’s experience. And they carry forward past birth into the first week, the first year and the first six years, which is where an imprint stops being an impression and becomes a working pattern.
A student who had already trained in womb healing elsewhere put it this way: she knew about the four imprints usually discussed, and discovering there were actually nine shifted a great deal for her. She then began recognising which imprints her own son was carrying, and how some of them had come through her from her mother.
The reason the resolution matters is practical. A person’s present-day difficulty usually traces to a conclusion drawn at one particular stage, and the work differs depending on which one. Working at stage four when the imprint sits at stage seven produces a moving session and no durable change.
I teach all 9 womb imprints, with what belongs to each stage, in the womb healing practitioner training. If you are here as a client rather than a practitioner, you do not need to learn the map. You only need me to know where we are on it.
05 · What science says
Where the research supports this, and where it does not.
That the prenatal environment shapes us is mainstream science. That womb healing is a validated treatment is not, and I will not pretend otherwise.
Research published in PNAS in 2019 found that maternal prenatal stress phenotypes were associated with measurable differences in fetal neurodevelopment and birth outcomes. Maternal cortisol is one established route by which stress reaches the fetal brain, crossing the placenta and binding in regions dense with glucocorticoid receptors, including the hippocampus. Reviews of that literature are also careful to note that cortisol is not the sole mechanism and that findings vary between studies.
What that establishes is the premise: the nine months matter, measurably. What it does not establish is my method. The nine stages of womb imprints came out of my own practice and study, not out of a laboratory, and there is no trial behind it. Treat it as a working map that has proved useful in the room, held honestly as that.
If you want the better-evidenced route for a diagnosed condition, that is a psychiatrist or a clinical psychologist, and I will tell you so rather than keep you. This work sits alongside clinical care. It does not substitute for it.
06 · Client stories
What people say after a womb healing session.
It has been a little over a week since the womb healing session. The session helped bring to consciousness my unconscious resolutions taken so early in my life i.e. while in the womb and surprisingly which are affecting my life even today. I liked the clear structure of the session and the explanations before and afterwards. I feel a general sense of relief and feel a little less angry than earlier. I calm down quicker I feel which is a win.
For a very long time, I have been the eldest daughter — always responsible, always managing everything… During the session, I understood something very important: I was unconsciously carrying my mother's pain. I had spent years trying not to become her, trying not to repeat her patterns, but I didn't realise how much of her emotional burden I was holding inside. The most beautiful part of the session was recognising what had been missing for almost 40 years of my life — that feeling of safety, softness, and emotional security.
What touched me most was the deep sense of remembrance it awakened of who I am, why I am here, and the purpose my soul is gently guiding me toward. Some of my questions, which I could never understand, got answered. It felt like coming home to myself, with greater clarity, trust, and alignment than ever before.
I had no idea how deeply my body, mind, and soul needed this space to release so many traumas and beliefs I had been carrying for years. It truly felt as if a great weight had been lifted from my chest. The session has shifted something profound within me. I feel a little more healed, lighter, and able to embrace life again.
It opened my eyes to the 'dead decisions' I had been carrying in my body and mind for years — unresolved womb issues, patterns of abuse, trauma, and abandonment. As I moved through the healing, I could feel those heavy layers slowly releasing. I now feel lighter, clearer, and more fearless.
As usual Sneha it was a GREAT experience with you. You are so patient and calm. I felt so held and supported during the entire session. Whenever I speak to you, I always keep looking at you with so much awe because of the amount of skill you've put into your work… Recommending Sneha to everyone around me.

07 · Questions
Womb healing, answered plainly.
What is womb healing?
Womb healing is work with the imprints formed before you were born. Our life stories begin long before memory. Even before birth, we carry the emotional climate of our mother's womb: her joy, her fear, her grief, her trauma. Those imprints shape the nervous system, relationships and sense of self long before there is any language to describe them. Womb work traces them, releases what is stored, and then rebuilds: what I call regression, healing and regeneration.
Is womb healing only for women?
No. Everybody was in a womb. Some of the deepest sessions I have facilitated have been with men, including a former chief executive in his sixties who arrived emotionally numb after trying many other approaches, and who found that what surfaced was his mother's unresolved grief, still being carried. As one of my students put it, this is a modality that is beneficial for everyone, irrespective of gender.
Is there scientific evidence that what happens in the womb affects us later?
On the general question, yes, and it is mainstream. Research published in PNAS in 2019 found that maternal prenatal stress phenotypes were associated with measurable differences in fetal neurodevelopment and birth outcomes, and maternal cortisol is one route by which stress reaches the fetal brain. Reviews of that literature also caution that cortisol is not the sole mechanism and that findings are inconsistent across studies.
What that science establishes is that the prenatal environment matters. It does not validate womb healing as a clinical treatment, and I will not claim that it does. My framework of nine stages of womb imprints comes from my own practice and study, not from a laboratory. Take it as a working map that has proved useful, not as settled science.
What are the nine stages of womb imprints?
The nine stages I work with are:
- Nine Months Before Conception
- The Conception Event
- Discovery of Pregnancy
- The Father’s Reaction
- The Duration of Pregnancy
- The Birth Process
- The First Week After Birth
- The First Year
- The First Six Years
Most womb work in circulation discusses four. Notice what the extra five do. They reach back before conception. They give the father’s reaction a stage of its own rather than folding it into the mother’s experience. And they carry forward past birth, into the first week, the first year and the first six years.
A present-day difficulty usually traces to a conclusion drawn at one particular stage, and the work differs depending on which one. The full map, with what belongs to each stage, is taught in the womb healing practitioner training.
Do I have to relive anything painful?
Womb regression is not a re-enactment and it is not hypnosis theatre. You stay present and in control throughout, and we go at the pace your body allows. There is usually emotion, sometimes a great deal of it. There should never be overwhelm, and if we approach it, we stop and regulate rather than push through.
Are you a practitioner rather than a client?
The practitioner training runs for three months of live classes, then three months of continued handholding. It teaches all 9 womb imprints, the regression and release practices, and the consultation work needed to hold this layer safely for someone else.
