When my inner children parents my children

Trauma-Informed Therapist, Trainer & Coach
Parenting has a way of showing you the parts of yourself you thought were healed.
And then… they rise.
When my son talks back.
When he wastes his food.
When he lies.
Every small act becomes a mirror.
I see the guilt flare.
I feel my patience fray.
I hear my younger self—the one who was never seen, never held—scream inside.
That little inner child.
The one I’ve been carrying all these years. It shows up in the kitchen. At the playground. At bedtime.
And suddenly, I realize—I am passing down fractures I never intended to.
I snap over spilled juice.
I raise my voice over a missed homework.
I over-explain when he asks why.
And in those moments, I know: it’s not just the situation.
It’s the old wounds speaking through me.
The fear, the hurt, the patterns I never healed.
I used to call it failure.
I used to feel shame.
I thought doing the work meant I’d never lose my temper again.
But healing isn’t about perfection.
It’s about repair.
It’s about noticing the fracture.
Owning it.
Coming back.
So, I pause. I breathe. I tell him:
“I’m sorry for how I reacted. That wasn’t your fault. Let’s fix this together.”
And slowly, the tension melts.
Trust rebuilds.
Connection blooms.
Every small repair matters more than the mistake.
Every “I see what I did there” strengthens love.
Every “I’m sorry” teaches him that we can hold each other, even when we falter.
Parenting is messy.
Parenting is raw.
Parenting is not about never failing—it’s about showing up anyway.
If you see yourself in these moments… if you feel the weight of the guilt and worry about repeating old patterns… know this: you are not failing. You are human.
And you don’t have to do it alone.
I hold 1:1 therapeutic spaces for parents who want to break cycles, meet their wounded inner child, and step into conscious, connected parenting.
I also guide practitioner trainings for those who want to hold these spaces for others, with depth, clarity, and compassion.
Healing begins where we notice the fracture.
And repair is always possible.
