When Browsing Isn’t Really Browsing

It usually starts without intention.

A few minutes between tasks.

A screen already open.

My thumb moving before I’ve really decided to move it.

I’m not unhappy.

I’m not excited either.

Just somewhere in between.

A dress appears.

I pause longer than I meant to.

I imagine how it might look on me.

Not the dress exactly — but the version of me wearing it.

The way someone might look twice.

The quiet approval I don’t admit I’m hoping for.

Then cosmetics.

Books.

Small, beautiful things.

I tell myself I’m only browsing.

But something in me is scanning for a feeling.

Something softer.

Something better than this flatness.

I add things to the cart.

Not urgently.

Almost absent-mindedly.

I notice how ordinary it feels.

No rush.

No thrill.

Just the subtle idea that this might help — somehow.

Sometimes I buy.

Sometimes I don’t.

Either way, the moment passes.

And the feeling I was reaching for doesn’t stay.

I begin to notice this pattern — gently, without judgement.

The scrolling usually comes when I’ve been holding myself together for too long.

When I don’t want to feel bored.

Or lonely.

Or vaguely unseen.

I’m not looking for things.

I’m looking for a shift.

These days I pause the scroll.

I sit with that quiet pull for a moment longer than usual.

I don’t rush to name it.

I just notice it.

There’s a part of me that believes

if something outside changes, I’ll feel better inside.

If I look better.

If I have better things.

If someone notices.

Staying here, I can see it more clearly now.

Not as a flaw.

Just as a habit.

And slowly — not like a revelation, not all at once — something softens.

I see that what I’ve been searching for isn’t in the cart.

It’s in this pause.

In letting myself feel ordinary.

Unfixed.

Unimproved.

In allowing myself to be here, as I am, without trying to upgrade the moment.

That’s when the pull eases.

Not dramatically.

Just enough.

Enough to close the tab.

Enough to breathe.

Enough to stay with myself.

This is the work I hold space for.

I offer 1:1 spaces and practitioner trainings for those who feel this quiet searching too —

and are ready to step gently into themselves,

release the weight of becoming,

and reclaim presence, one ordinary moment at a time.
